The true story of the Exodus, the ship whose attempts to bring Holocaust survivors to Palestine served as a catalyst for forming a Jewish homeland. After a bloody battle with the British, the immigrants were sent back to Germany and put in "Displaced Person" camps. News coverage, however, turned Exodus 1947 into a symbol of the Jewish struggle and galvanized western support for the creation of the State of Israel. The film includes newsreel footage and interviews with some of the American Jews who secretly financed and served as crew for the ship and its carfo of 4,500 Holocaust survivors.
